These are just the most successful of them. This part of the monastery has much more in common with the first parts than with the latter, which cannot but rejoice, since it was the first parts that led the franchise to such success as it had recently. However, all these little things do not directly affect the plot, but influence your perception of the whole history.
As for the rest of the characters that you meet during the game, there are few of them, and they are so well worked out that their character cannot even be unequivocally understood until the very end. For some, many of the characters may seem harmless victims, to someone, on the contrary, crazy psychopaths. But no one will be right one hundred percent, because the game hides almost the whole story from you, teasing you with small pieces of narrative. At some point, you might even think that the plot is obvious, but in fact you will not know almost anything. Moreover, such a good level of thoughtfulness of the characters echoes their number. One of the reasons for this, in addition to the whole atmosphere of the game, was the developer’s responsible approach to these scenes, because every time I saw something new and terrifying.
The house itself looks abandoned, and as if everything had died out in an instant there: now there are still decayed scraps in the dishes, cockroaches are running around and things are scattered. That is, Capcom really tried to create the environment, for which they are undoubtedly a huge plus.
The game contains a completely unique feeling of persecution and a constant desire to look around. I compared this game with Outlast, but in Outlast someone is chasing you almost always, and you are sure of that, but here you cannot be sure of anything, especially when it comes to your pursuers. They can pretend that you are indifferent to them, and then bam, and jump out because of the nearest corner with loud laughter and ridicule of your attempts to escape. The game supports such an atmosphere when the player is afraid of his own steps, because here you can never know for sure that no one is following you.
I would like to say the following about the mechanics of the game itself: it resembles much more the first parts of this wonderful series than the following, but only pluses, and they are brought to the ideal. Not only did the enemies endowed MMA fighters with the combat qualities of the fighters, because of which you do not even know what to expect from them, so the game mechanic was supplemented for the movement of opponents. Now they are able to reduce the distance to you, for example, breaking the wall or making a short path to you with a chainsaw. Moreover, now you will never be able to be one hundred percent that you got rid of the persecution, because they, firstly, will not be able to stop some kind of obstacle, and secondly, the game inserts you sticks into wheels and sometimes opponents appear before you earlier than you expect this.
Virtual reality is one of the bright distinguishing features of this part of the game. The new engine, Reus, on which the game was fulfilled, allowed a decent performance of such an innovation.
